Lesina: An area of Apulia
where the best asparagus is grown

A unique product from a unique terrain lying between coastal lakes and the sea.

Aspargó project

Asparagus from Italy
Conquering hearts and delighting palates across Europe.

Progetto Aspargó celebrates one of the most interesting crops cultivated by Cooperativa Agricola La Palma: the asparagus.
The asparagus is a spring vegetable that, being composed mostly of water, contains few calories, yet is rich in fibre and antioxidants.
Thanks to three generations of dedication and passion since its foundation in 1958, La Palma, a growers’ cooperative, has established itself at home and abroad as a producer of uniquely delicious-tasting top-quality asparagus.

Aspargó: asparagus cultivation around coastal lakes

Il territorio

Our growing fields border Lake Lesina in Apulia, a brackish body of water with unique properties that lies between the Gargano promontory and the wide coastal plain known as the Tavoliere delle Puglie.
22 kilometres long, Lake Lesina is the second largest body of water in southern Italy.
Here, on land forming an isthmus between the Adriatic Sea and Lake Lesina, we grow our “Aspargó” plants. On this lick of land, the asparagus plants benefit from the humid salinity of their surroundings, which, warmed by the heat of the Apulian sun, endows them with exceptional nutritional value and a natural savour that sets them apart and above anything else available on the Italian market.

“Aspargò is a project designed to favour a short supply chain. Because the asparaguses are harvested from fields close to where they are processed, their unique fragrance and flavours are preserved. This is the added value that we bring.”
